Biography
I was born in Staffordshire in 1951 into a family of Miners and Clayworkers. After an inauspicious education and a feral childhood, I attended Nuneaton School of Art and Twickenham Collage of Technology to study Graphic Design. This was followed by a short period of time working in advertising, which I disliked very much.
I began painting in 1970 and have worked steadily since then. I have illustrated many books on various subjects ranging from food and gardening to fishing and knot tying. I have worked on many practical art books for various authors and have written and produced over 30 titles of my own. I have written and illustrated countless articles for art magazines and art part works.
I spent time working as a portrait artist before turning my attentions to painting the landscape, which I currently concentrate on. I was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 2010. I work in many different mediums but predominately watercolour, pen and ink and oil paint. I live and work in West London.
