Frederick Terpstra ASGFA

Biography

Born in 1995, Frederick Terpstra is an artist who lives between Zurich and Paris. Of Australian, Dutch and English descent, he devotes himself exclusively to drawing and draws inspiration from the different cultures he has encountered, exploring human behaviour and practices in public spaces, often influenced by contemporary technology. In addition, he has recently begun incorporating the play of light into his works.

Since his childhood, he has been fascinated by the possibility of representing the world around him through his imagination, but also through on-site observation. His grandfather passed on his passion for art to him. He began by drawing manga and landscapes sketched whilst on holiday, before moving on to portraiture, then depicting everyday life in more complex compositions.

Frederick Terpstra is represented by the Alex Schlesinger Gallery in Zurich, Switzerland. He has exhibited notably at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and exhibited in March 2026 at Drawing Now Paris, with the C Gallery. He was finalist in the David Weill drawing prize with the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2025.
