Caroline Mathews

Biography

Caroline is based in North London where she is a member of Studio Fridays- she works in pencil, soft pastel, and pen. Inspiration comes from her local woodlands and trees are herpassion; being among them lifts tension and brings clarity.

She’s also an advocate for the environmental value of trees and supports the Woodland Trust and the Hertfordshire & Middlesex Wildlife Trust.

Before becoming a full-time artist, she spent 32 years teaching infants—especially enjoying their fearless approach to art- something she wishes she could hold onto in her own work!

She loves the work of Cézanne, Emily Carr, the Canadian Group of Seven, Andy Goldsworthy, the poet Mary Oliver and so many others.

She has exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London with the RBA, SGFA, Pastel Society and ING Discerning Eye.
