Susan Andrew SGFA

Biography

I trained as a printmaker but work in a range of media, drawing, painting, etching and lino printing. My subject matter has included tropical scenes, landscapes, harbour scenes, portraits, religious and imaginary work.

I have recently produced a series of drawings and paintings called Paraguayan Dream. My interest in tropical forms began during my degree course, when I visited a number of hothouses throughout the UK. A later visit to Paraguay fuelled my enthusiasm for exotic, colourful foliage and jungles, and I have sought to capture this in my series.

My work has been exhibited at galleries including the Royal Academy of Arts, the Mall Galleries, the Painters’ Hall and the Menier Gallery in London, the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston, the City Art Gallery in Manchester and in a one-woman exhibition at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. I have undertaken a range of commissions, which have included portraiture, religious work and illustrating the novel Wuthering Heights.
