Stuart trained at Eastbourne and Wimbledon Schools of Art specialising in Theatre Design. He worked in the West End, abroad and Repertory Theatre for 20 years. Having left the theatre in 1986 Stuart worked as a successful events designer around Europe and took up his first love of painting and drawing. Stuart has held many solo and joint exhibitions in the UK and Italy. He is a council member of The Society of Graphic Fine Art.

A love of drawing and sketching in pencil and charcoal, a strong understanding of artistic practice and a love of the history of art are the foundations upon which he creates his paintings. Stuart works mainly in oil and acrylic and the influence of his theatre background can be seen in his dramatic paintings, which are full of light, colour, energy and atmosphere.
