Sally Loughridge SGFA
Biography
Sally Loughridge is a UK based British artist. Sally trained in Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Drawing – Oxford University, Theatre Design at Croydon College and Printmaking at Morley College. Sally has twenty years experience working as a freelance costume designer for the BBC, Channel 4 and other independent television and film companies and has exhibited her artwork at the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries, Bankside and other central London galleries.
As wardrobe assistant for the former London Contemporary Dance Theatre and prop-maker for the Ballet Rambert, Sally was able to observe dancers in rehearsal and produce a series of sketches, including studies of the Royal Ballet and the English National Ballet rehearsing with Nureyev. These preliminary studies provided the foundations for a body of paintings, drawings and prints on the theme of dance and movement.
Recent works, accentuating tonal contrasts, bold contours and interlinking lines, further demonstrate the influence of Theatre on Sally’s portrayal of human form, where the relationship between figure and setting is enhanced by the pervading sense of drama and storytelling also present in the artist’s depiction of the natural landscape.
