Biography
Rika Newcombe’s work is inspired by traces from the past: fossils, ruins and relics. By collecting fragments, categorizing pieces and imagining missing parts, her works explore the woven history of the earth.
Rika was born and grew up in Tokyo. She was always interested in how all life started. Curiosity about the beginning of life led her to study chemistry at university. Since then she moved to Cambridge and started developing her career as an artist.
During her time at the Royal College of Art she won the Linklaters Printmaking Award. She also won the Galleries Magazine Award and the London Print Studio Award at the National Print Exhibition. Her works have been shown at the Mall Galleries, Bankside Gallery and Jerwood Space, London.
Rika was elected an associate member of the SGFA in May 2017.
