I live in Suffolk and paint or draw every day. From my daily dog walks I get all my inspiration, seeing and feeling nature all around me. Living in the country you can’t fail to be inspired by all the colours, the changing seasons, the sun and shadows and reflections in the rivers and ponds.

I am drawn in to corners of the landscape, a bank of brambles, a twisted bunch of leaves, for example, that could seem unremarkable, but I find their complex structure and detail, often distorted by sunlight, to be fascinating, full of colour, and a wonderful mass of entwined shapes and abstract forms.

Water has always been particularly fascinating to me, whether it is the open sea or woodland ponds. I love the sea’s empty horizon and repetitive movements; they are so captivating and mesmerizing, instilling contemplation and peacefulness. Or, in a pond, the reflected distortion of the world around its edges is why I find it so interesting and is never far from my thoughts.

My paintings have their origin in my own black and white photographs. Then through an intricate and labour intense process, resulting in an array of tiny shapes, which depicts a unified visual effect that is both abstract when viewed close up, and figurative when viewed from a far. The more I paint the more I realise how important my process is to me. The structure and control I need to have when painting. I am not trying to create a photorealist painting; it is the process I have adopted that is the integral part for me.

I have exhibited mostly in the UK, but also New York, Miami and Paris. I have had solo shows in London, with Hamilton’s Gallery and Myerson Fine Art. I have been in various competitions including the Jerwood Drawing Prize and was a prize winner in a national Channel 5 competition and had residencies in Aspen, Colorado, and the Great Fosters Hotel. Last year I also exhibited at the Mall Galleries in Society of Graphic fine Art. Currently I am showing with Grandyart in London, Skymeadow Gallery in Suffolk, The Halland Gallery in the Isle of Wight, and I have exhibited numerous times with ArtEast.
