Rachel has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and an MA in Printmaking from Camberwell College of Arts, and a PGCE from the University of Brighton. Her practice centres on drawing and printmaking, with a particular focus on natural forms and close observations of the environment.

Drawing is central to her work, both as a way of observing and as the foundation for various forms of printmaking, particularly dry point and monoprinting. She is drawn to the textures and shapes found in small, often overlooked details of natural forms such as feathers, leaves and seeds. She records these observations using various drawing materials and explores layering and mark making when developing her drawings into print.

In her recent drawings of abandoned birds’ nests, she was captivated by the intricate networks of woven twigs, leaves, and feathers. Her work focuses on the detail and fragility of these forms, using line to translate their complexity into both drawing and print.

Rachel currently teaches part-time at a secondary school in Surrey and has previously worked as a printmaker in residence. She is a member of Oaks Park Printmakers.
