Biography
Artist Printmaker Peg Morris loves to explore different processes although she specialises in etching. She has drawn throughout her life; her work is rooted in observation and drawing underpins all the images she makes. During the 1980s, Peg completed an Art Foundation Course at the North East Essex School of Art and a degree in Fine Art, specialising in painting at Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology. A PGCE and a career in teaching followed but Peg attended etching classes at Putney School of Art for many years and, having left finally left teaching in 2016 after many years of juggling art and teaching, manages a small open access printmaking studio in Kew, where she also teaches etching. She is a member of the Printmakers Council and has served on their committee since 2019. In 2010 Peg was co-founder of Kingston Artists’ Open Studios. She has been a member of Southbank Printmakers Gallery since 2015.
Peg has had a lifelong fascination with dereliction and abandoned buildings and has always felt compelled to spend time outdoors in green spaces. There is something timeless and reassuring about how nature will reclaim spaces we abandon. After 30 years in London, Peg moved to the Surrey Hills in 2021 and the influence of her new surroundings is beginning to show in her work which is becoming increasingly focused on the landscape, and specifically the ancient trees in her new location.
