Mike Greaves SGFA

Biography

Mike is a self- taught artist who works predominantly in pen and watercolour. Over many years, he has worked on location capturing the initial ink drawings of buildings, parks and people in a series of hardbound A5 sketch books.

Although these sketches include scenes from other parts of the UK and abroad, it is always London that draws him back for inspiration. The diversity of the city’s architecture continues to astonish and surprise.

In June 2014, Mike held his first solo exhibition of London paintings in the Barbican Library. Since then, Mike has had a solo exhibition in Southwark Cathedral (2015) and a second solo exhibition in the Barbican Library (2018). In addition, Mike has exhibited in both the Menier Gallery (2015, 2016 and 2018) and the Bankside Gallery (2017).

In 2016 Mike became the Artist in Residence for the Maritime Archaeology Trust (MAT) on their Heritage Lottery funded project Forgotten Wrecks of World War One. Mike has produced more than 50 paintings for MAT which are used for educational visits, exhibitions, presentations and publications.

In 2018 Mike provided the illustrations for his wife Kate’s latest book Exhibition: London Stories which is published on Amazon.
