Biography
Maz has spent a lifetime living and painting in Norfolk, UK. Her work has a surreal, spiritual quality and is exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide. She has won national and international awards, and her paintings, prints and drawings are in public and private collections.
Using 15th century methods, Maz’s paintings are worked in egg tempera on gessoed oak panels between gilded shapes of 24 carat gold leaf. Much time passes between each process. Many drawings of thoughts and ideas form stimuli for the paintings, some also become series of prints, artist’s books and sculptures as imagery continues to evolve.
“I have a deep interest in traditions of practice, colour, line, mark-making and edge. Imagery springs from anything that excites: communication, laughter, touch, tension, flight, landscape, the spaces between and things sacred. I wish my work to have a timeless quality which the onlooker can dip into and be instilled with ever-changing thoughts, questions and smiles.”
