John Hurford SGFA

Biography 

John Hurford is a North Devon Farmer and now a full time painter. He is an honorary academician of the South West Academy and his work has been reproduced in many magazines and books and his early work is in the collection of the V&A museum London and has been shown in the Whitney in New York, the Tate in Liverpool, and the V&A. His books include: “Johnny, the work of psychedelic artist John Hurford” ( Sunrise Press 2006) “The Art of Big O” (Big Vision  2015) “Artist as Muse” (2014) “Later Graphic Work”(Wixon Editions  2015) “Rural Bliss” (Wixon Editions 2016) “It must be Art” ( Schiffer 2018) “Nature Supernature” (Wixon Editions  2022) His paintings on canvas vary in size from 30x40cms to 150cms square. He also loves drawing in pencil, pen and ink and coloured pencils. His work includes portraits of people he knows and nature from the immediate surroundings of his studio in the Devon countryside. He is now working on several books related to a visit to the Batek tribe in the Malaysian rainforest. One is of photographs, one of paintings and a graphic novel.
