Biography
I am a self taught artist living in the South West of Scotland. My interest in art has been with me since I was a child, which was unusual in my family for no one else had the same interest. I remember finding a very old copy of Les Maitres de la Peinture au Musee du Louvre in a junk shop which became a real treasure of mine and I spent hours doing drawings of the images which ranged from religious art to Degas.
In my early teens I became very interested in the Impressionists and totally fell in love with Van Gogh and readily painted in his style. I still have a self-portrait from that period on my wall.
Later in life, through my wife, I met a wonderful artist who through illness had become blind. She was such an inspiration and pushed me into being more positive about my work and exhibiting more. I owe her a lot.
From my days of Impressionism I have now developed a more detailed style. This came about through seeing work by artists such as Chuck Close and Gerhard Richter. Other artists which inspire me are Euan Uglow, Lucian Freud and Caravaggio. I exhibit both locally and nationally.
