Cynthia Barlow Marrs SGFA

Biography

Cynthia grew up in the North American prairies and worked internationally in large-scale land planning before she returned to England and committed to work full time as an artist.

She draws on memories of landscapes around the world to create sense impressions of space and light. Her invented landscapes feature the repeated use of stylised forms such as leaves, trees and blades of grass, the one sometimes morphing into the other. Her observational drawings, on the other hand, attempt to capture unposed moments in everyday life.

An Urban Sketcher, Cynthia has a BFA degree in Painting and further degrees in environmental design and planning. She won two awards for highly commended artworks in DRAW 13, the Society’s 92nd Annual Open Exhibition. Cynthia’s art can be seen in group exhibitions in London, in solo and group exhibitions in and around the Thames Valley, and in private collections in Britain, Singapore, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and the USA.

Cynthia was elected a member of the Society in 2009. She served on the SGFA Council from 2011 – 2014 and as Vice President from 2013 – 2014.
