Biography
Bernard attended Harrow School of Art, from the age of 13 to 19. The first 3 years learning art print disciplines, silversmithing, plant and life drawing, the second 3 years advertising, typography and film making.
On leaving art school he joined Thames Television as a Graphic Designer, designing title sequences, logos for a wide variety of programmes, including illustrating stories for the children’s programme ‘Rainbow.’
In 1985, with the birth of electronic drawing systems the Quantel Paintbox, Bernard started his own design group ‘The Graphics Department’ designing title sequences for Channel 4 / BBC 1 / 2 / Channel 5, Sky and also working for
blue chip corporate clients. He also created paper props for the film industry especially Hand Made films, these included the map for Terry Gilliam’s ‘Time Bandits’ and The Ministry of Information Logo for ‘Brazil’. Bernard was then
employed as Head of Graphics at Channel One Television.
In 2003, Bernard completed a Master’s Degree in Fine Art Painting at City and Guilds London School of Art and has exhibited in The Royal Academy West (twice) and various group exhibitions. In recent years Bernard has drawn typefaces, designed websites and creates animations for social media and has completed several art commissions.
